"A very worthwhile project, far too many people and small businesses are browbeaten into conceding when they are unable to properly contest issues"
Councillor Michael Desmond, Deputy Speaker, Hackney Council
Nominate someone who you think might need some support getting their legal issue sorted
If we think they're protected by the law then we'll give them priority access to case funding
We'll also provide a dedicated legal expert to help get their case resolved
Pay it forward
If we manage to win the case, we'll ask for a small contribution back into the Legal Defence Fund
HOW IT WORKS
TYPES OF PROBLEMS WE CAN HELP WITH
When you're feeling that you're being ripped off
When you're chasing unpaid invoices and sorting out IP infringement
When you're struggling to get paid the money you're owed
When you're dealing with dodgy landlords, or trying to get deposits back
When you've got issues with suppliers or the council
When you think you're being asked to pay for something unfairly
What does the funding cover?
When do applications close?
If we think the person you nominate has a case, then we'll pay for a dedicated legal expert, and cover all their legal costs (even in the worst case scenario they decide they need to go to court)
Do I have to pay anything?
Unlike a traditional law firm, we don't charge anything upfront. Instead, and only if we help you win a case, we ask for a 10-20% contribution back into the Legal Defence Fund
We've set aside enough funding for 100 cases so we recommend getting in touch ASAP to ensure we can make you an offer.
What about if i'm not sure whether someone has a case?
It can be tricky to work out what your legal rights actually are, but that's what our legal team do day-in, day-out. So even if you're a bit unsure, we suggEst you get in touch anyway.
Who is eligible?
We're open to all. We've worked hard to make our services accessible, so if you're worried there might be something preventing you from working with us then please let us know!
Does anyone make money from this?
The Defence Fund is paid for by The Justice Community, a local social enterprise. All profits from the fund are re-invested in funding more cases.
